Problem

RIYT's snarling Shrek dragon is about to lose his home!  ....along with Olaf and Sven from Frozen; the flesh eating plants from Little Shop of Horrors; castles from faraway lands, and curiosities big and small that transform empty stages into lands of magic.  The large barn RI Youth Theater has been renting this past decade is being SOLD within the year as part of a large estate sale. This is where our sets and props are constructed, stored, and rented out to schools and theater programs across RI, MA, and CT.  The rental income on these items offsets the cost of RIYT productions and also provides a valuable resource to groups that do not have the personnel, budget, or storage space to create their own.  In addition, the 7,000 piece costume collection is now in need of a permanent location so these assets will continue to be available to all the theater and school groups that depend on the low cost rental for their shows.  The technical equipment stored and rented also needs a professional storage and rental facility.

Is it feasible for RIYT to purchase or lease a building for Arts and Entertainment Makers Spaces?  These spaces would include:

  • OSHA compliant set and prop shop for design, construction, storage, and rental
  • Costume design and construction center with cleaning, storage, rental services,  audio and video studio, and rental center for tech equipment
  • Office and tech center for inventory control, audio and video editing, CAD design, graphic design, digital projection design, website design, marketing, and printing
  • All purpose room for meetings, rehearsals, workshops, play writing sessions
  • Kitchen for culinary arts classes and to provide food for meetings
